ABOUT JEFFREY BUSSELLS

Jeffrey Bussells
b. 1963, Richmond, Virginia
Using just a few colors on a wood panel, Jeffrey Bussells attempts to quickly and directly put down something that is meaningful to him. His starting place is typically a familiar landscape (the Virginia Piedmont or Down East Maine) or an incidental still life of fruit or flowers. Space is a primary concern. His marks tend to be linear and painterly. Expression is valued over description and refinement. Rhythm, movement and balance play key roles. His influences include Titian, Rembrandt, Albert Pinkham Ryder and Jack Boul.
